Job Description:
Regeneron's Vivarium Operations and Veterinary Services group,
located in Tarrytown NY is seeking an Associate Director. In this
role, you will play a vital role in our animal care and use program
and consult with research investigators on all aspects of in vivo
study design and preclinical animal model development. You will
assist in assuring compliance with all federal, state and local
laws and guidelines and institutional policies concerning the use
of animals in biomedical research. You provide management oversight
and administrative direction of the assigned animal facilities. A
Typical Day in the Role of Associate Director Might Look Like:
Provides operational management and administrative direction of the
assigned animal facilities. Assures that the care and welfare of
laboratory animals are provided in accordance with internal and
external standards & regulations. Performs or assigns management
tasks effectively that furthers the goal of excellence in animal
care and use in biomedical research. Assists the leadership in
designing, developing, and implementing new systems and approaches
that promote operational efficiencies and support the acceleration
of research activities. Assists the Director (leadership) in
creating and adhering to a developmental plan for backup and
succession of key departmental personnel. Provides leadership in
implementing the mission of animal research services, including
animal care, regulatory compliance, research support, teamwork, and
assuring the safety and well-being of personnel and animals.
Ensures that the animal care and use program aligns with federal,
state, and local regulations and standards, including the Animal
Welfare Act, PHS Policy, and the ILAR Guide for the Care and Use of
Laboratory Animals. Maintains standards required for accreditation
by AAALAC-I. Supports operational excellence by collecting metrics
and operating trends within the animal care & welfare programs,
including supporting the development and implementation of
operational standard processes & procedures. Audits and evaluates
systems, operations, and/or processes for compliance with
appropriate work instructions/standard operating procedures and
regulatory compliance requirements. Conducts business process
reviews with a focus on continuous improvement, efficiencies, and
global harmonization. Conducts annual site visits using a collegial
and peer-reviewed approach. Participates in the local business
continuity and disaster planning for the animal facilities
Participates in the laboratory animal medicine post-doctoral
resident training program. Participates in veterinary support and
assists investigators in protocol and animal model development,
advising them in experimental design regarding animal welfare and
adequate veterinary care issues. Provides input to research
projects in support of Regenerons portfolio. Review or consult on
research animal proposals submitted for IACUC review. Serves on a
rotational basis to provide veterinary care coverage on weekends
and holidays. Planning and implementation of animal health
surveillance programs. Participates in site visits/consultations by
external oversight organizations (AAALAC-International, USDA).
Subject matter expertise in common laboratory animal surgical
procedures, analgesia, and anesthesia. Awareness of current
industry best practices in the breeding and handling of transgenic
animal models. This Role May Be For You If You: Possess an in-depth

tasks and drive new technologies related to Veterinary Services Are
capable of multi-tasking, working both independently and within a
collaborative environment. This role requires a Doctor of
Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) from an AVMA-accredited veterinary
college or equivalent. American College of Laboratory Animal
Medicine certified or board eligible strongly preferred. 10 years
of related work experience, with 7 or more years of
leadership/management experience and 5 years of work experience in
progressively responsible roles in a large research organization,
including supervision and personnel management. Detailed knowledge
in the practice of veterinary medicine focused on laboratory animal

- $252,800.00
