Job Summary: The Safety Specialist will work under the direction of other safety and operational managers to help support, coach, and educate Peckham members in order to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses as well as ensure compliance with company/government/industry regulations and standards. This is a developmental role, in which the new hire will be mentored and coached by the safety department, while learning and gaining experience in the field and the business. It will be the priority of this position to work towards the company's goals to achieve Best in Class Status, while contributing to the continuous overall safety culture of Achieving Zero (zero injuries, zero accidents). Essential Functions: Integrity. Ensure company, industry and regulatory policies are followed and adhered to. Work with management and all PII members to help identify gaps in compliance and facilitate solutions.Protect family and friends. Support members in nurturing the PII culture of keeping safety first and foremost in people's minds. Dedicated. Conduct safety assessments at all operations; work with management team to identify hazards and solutions.Communicate. Assist with accidents and good catch reports for all incidents using our internal accident reporting system.Obligated. Partnering with our business lines as special projects or other needs arise. Assist and conduct training (new hire, task & refresher). Transparency and learning. Support management in developing incident root cause analysis. Understanding of Industrial Hygiene testing/monitoring/results.Respect and engage. Participate in activities required to support the Corporate Safety strategic plan. Participate in safety & health associations and councils as appropriate.Ownership and caring. Help develop and support safety initiatives.Safety always wins. Ensure sub-contractors/contract truck haulers at our facility/job sites comply with the company and regulatory requirements. Requirements, Education and Experience:Associate's or bachelor's degree in safety or related field preferred.3 - 5 years of experience in safety, construction and/or manufacturing industries OSHA, MSHA, IH or similar preferred.Strong verbal & written English communication skills, ability to coach/teach.Ability to take initiative and work through difficult situations with other safety team members.OSHA/MSHA certified instructor a plus.Computer literacy, Microsoft Suite.Must have a valid driver's licenseMust have legal right to work in the U.S.Other Duties:Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers.
