Overview
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Designer
with demonstrated CAD modeling and drafting ability to join our
multi-disciplinary Product Development team responsible for
developing novel fuel cell-based systems for hydrogen production,
carbon capture, and power generation applications. This position
requires working with engineers to come up with new designs and
follow through from concept and detailed drawing specification, to
fabrication and assembly procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Produce detailed solid models of components and complex
assemblies, often from provided hand sketches, for innovative fuel
cell systems using Autodesk Inventor.
- Responsible for generating the build-to-print drawings while
adhering to ASME Y14.5M dimensioning and tolerancing standards.
- Prepare and present CAD designs and packaging concepts to the
project team using MS Power Point, CAD software, or other
means.
- Manage a Microsoft Excel-based Bill of Materials consisting of
approximately 500 unique line items and assist with procurement of
these line items.
- Work with a broad multi-disciplinary team to gather design inputs
and requirements and implement into to CAD model designs.
- Design tooling necessary to assemble fuel cell system.
- Create and revise Drawing Documentation Tree's and Process and
Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's).
- Assist with generating graphics for technical reports and
presentations.
Qualifications:
Education: A.S. or B.S. in Computer Aided Design, Mechanical
Engineering, or related field required.
Experience: Requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant work
experience.
Required Experience and Characteristics:
- Highly proficient 3-D CAD part and assembly modeling skills with
Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar programs.
- Ability to create detailed build-to-print engineering drawing
specifications, using proper dimensioning, tolerancing, weld
callouts, and drawing views.
- Knowledgeable of ASME Y14.5M standards and familiarity with AWS
weld callouts.
- Experience managing Bills of Materials (BoM) through a software
interface such as Excel.
- Experience using revision control vault software such as Autodesk
Vault or SolidWorks PDM.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as laser and
water-jet cutting, milling, grinding, lathe work, sheet metal
fabrication, welding, and 3D-printing.
- Working knowledge of MS Office products (Excel, PowerPoint,
Outlook).
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and
take initiative on projects.
Working Environment/Working Conditions:
- Desk work using a computer with up to two days a week allowed
from home.
- Adjustable height work desk provided upon request.
- Meeting occurring on-site and virtually (Teams, Zoom, Ring
Central, etc.)
- This position is located indoors and requires the ability to move
between rooms within the same building, adhering to FCE's covid-19
safe practices - includes social distancing, face mask wearing, and
other protocols.
- Be able and willing to wear required Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE) as designated such as safety glasses, safety shoes,
hard hats, respirator, and other PPE as required.
- Occasional travel to the FCE-Torrington manufacturing facility
and sited power plants.
- Travel (5% to 15%) domestic or international - via car and/or
commercial airlines.
