Job Description:

The Nuvance Health Medical Practice Surgical Service Line Executive/AVP is the operational partner to the Vice President/System Chair of Surgical Services. S/he is responsible for providing strategic, operational, financial, revenue cycle and administrative leadership for the Surgical Service Line across all hospitals and medical practices in Connecticut and New York that make up the Nuvance Health system including Inpatient Surgery, Ambulatory Surgery and Trauma Service. S/he will partner with the VP/System Chair to develop the strategic vision and priorities for the Surgical Services Line. Together with the VP/System Chair and the Nuvance Health Medical Practice Chief Operating Officer and Chief Administrative Officer, s/he will establish performance objectives to ensure the highest standard of excellence in the care, safety and experience of all surgical patients. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer of the Nuvance Health Medical Practice and indirectly to the Nuvance Health Vice President/System Chair of Surgical Services and the NHMP CAO. Responsibilities: • In partnership with the Vice President/System Chair of Surgical Services., the AVP of the Surgical Service Line develops service line strategies to deliver superior surgical services and excellent business operations to the patients across Nuvance Health • Collaborates with system clinical and administrative leaders to optimize the efficiency of care delivery and identify growth opportunities across the system/region. • As the lead operational executive for the service line, s/he is responsible for establishing operational objectives and priorities across all surgical services in the system and geographic footprint, overseeing local management in the achievement of these goals. • Assists in the development of the Surgical Service Line budget. Regularly reviews current business model, practice, practitioner, institutional, and or subspecialty specific business plans, providing rationale for any additional cost(s) incurred or planned. • Creates and manages an administrative organizational structure for the Surgical Service Line across the system, up to approximately 120 employees including directors, managers and staff. • Working with the COO and CAO, assists in creating a culture that prioritizes quality, patient experience, physician and staff engagement and financial stewardship. • Supervises the regional and local practice managers and hospital program administrators with regard to surgical practices and hospital programs. • Collaborates with local and regional administrative leadership to identify gaps in surgical care across the system. • Leads the implementation of processes and programs aimed at enhancing the success of the various practices within specialties across the system. • Actively leads integration among the various surgical specialties regionally distributed throughout the current and future system with an emphasis on quality, efficiency and innovation. • Assists with recruitment of administrative and clinical resources as required to fulfill the goals of the service line. • Supports the quality, efficiency, and growth activities of the Surgical Services Line across the system. • Develops and distributes management reports including key metrics for quality, operations, finance/revenue cycle, WRVU productivity, and patient experience. Provides consulting or direct intervention to improve results. • Creates an annual report to be presented to system leadership regarding clinical, educational, research/innovation, and financial performance of the Surgical Services Line. • Serves as the medicine administrative representative to the overall system administrative leadership team. • Partners with marketing team to enhance current clinical programs and launch new initiatives. • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position. • Performs other duties as assigned. Other information: REQUIRED Graduate degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience required along with demonstrated success leading a large department or service line. Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with and influence senior administrative and clinical leadership, operational management and staff in a changing and complex, matrixed environment. PREFERRED Fellowship status in the American College of Healthcare Executives or American College of Medical Practice Executives. EDUCATION Masters Level Degree Essential
