Job Description:
Position Summary
NYU's Stern School of Business has an exciting opportunity for a
Software Developer in the Volatility and Risk Institute (VRI). The
Software Developer will support research initiatives in VRI and
will participate in the ongoing design, development, testing, and
maintenance of software and technical solutions, including upgrades
and enhancements, to drive VRI's financial modeling and analysis.
Prepare technical specifications; design, develop, and test
technical solutions; and provide technical expertise upon request.
Assist in the design and development of the Volatility Laboratory
(V-Lab) AWS infrastructure and code base, maintaining code quality
standards. Write documentation and provide assistance for newly
developed applications. Research, develop, and implement innovative
ways to improve quality and functionality of applications and share
suggestions and knowledge capital with team members.
This is a 12 month fixed-term position, with a start date ASAP and
an end date of approximately July 1, 2025.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in a related
technical field (a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science,
Information Systems, or Mathematics is preferred) and 3+ years
relevant experience, including experience maintaining cloud
infrastructure and developing quality, performant, and resilient
web-based applications, and experience designing, developing,
maintaining, and troubleshooting distributed web-based
applications, or an equivalent combination of education and
experience. The ability to write code in one or more programming
languages, familiarity with relational database technology, such as
MySQL, Oracle, or Postgres, and knowledge of cloud technologies and
Infrastructure-as-Code principles is required. A strong
understanding of software development principles, algorithms, data
structures, and design patterns, as well as excellent
problem-solving skills, analytical skills, ability to take
initiative, and attention to detail is also required.
2+ years of software engineering experience in the finance field
and experience in programming with Python, MATLAB, R, and shell
scripting, version control systems, such as Git, and with AWS
technologies (eg, Cloudformation, EC2, ECR, ECS, Fargate, and S3)
is preferred. Experience with infrastructure technologies, such as
Chef and Terraform, with Linux operating system, knowledge of
financial concepts and data, and knowledge of econometrics and
statistics is also preferred.
This is a 12 month fixed-term position, with a start date ASAP and
an end date of approximately July 1, 2025.
Additional Information
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base
salary range for this position is USD $72,000.00 to USD $88,000.00.

as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending
an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any
additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical
compensation, or other items.
