Description Banquet & Events Prep Cook - Seasonal Larchmont Yacht Club Larchmont, New York Seasonal Position | April 1 through October 31 $22.00 to $24.00 per hour Opportunity for full-time employment at the end of the season based on performance and business needs Reports to: Executive Chef and Banquet Chef About Larchmont Yacht Club Founded in 1880 and located just 16 miles from New York City, Larchmont Yacht Club is one of the nation’s most respected private clubs. Our 11-acre waterfront campus along Long Island Sound offers an exceptional setting for sailing, athletics, family programming, and a vibrant year-round social calendar. Dining and hospitality are central to the member experience at Larchmont Yacht Club. The Club operates multiple dining venues and hosts a full calendar of private celebrations, regattas, weddings, member events, and seasonal gatherings. Our culinary team produces a wide range of dining experiences, from refined plated dinners to large-scale banquet service and outdoor waterfront events. The kitchen operates at a high level of professionalism with a strong emphasis on preparation, consistency, and teamwork. Seasonal cooks work alongside experienced chefs in a fast-paced but supportive environment where organization, skill development, and attention to detail are valued. Our culinary team often includes a mix of recent culinary school graduates who are building a foundation in professional kitchens and experienced banquet cooks who bring strong production knowledge from catering, hotel, or private club environments. Position Summary The Seasonal Banquet & Events Prep Cook plays an important role in preparing and executing high-quality cuisine for the Club’s private events, member dining functions, and large seasonal celebrations. Working closely with the Executive Chef, Banquet Chef, and culinary team, this position focuses on production preparation, station organization, and supporting banquet service during busy event schedules. This role is an excellent opportunity for recent culinary school graduates and early-career cooks who want to gain hands-on experience in large-scale event production within a respected private club environment. It is equally well suited for experienced banquet cooks who bring a strong background in high-volume catering, hotel banquets, or private club kitchens and take pride in precision, consistency, and teamwork. Successful candidates are dependable professionals who understand the pace of event kitchens, maintain high standards of organization and food quality, and work collaboratively to deliver memorable dining experiences for our members and their guests. Key Responsibilities Food Preparation and Production Prepare proteins, vegetables, sauces, stocks, and garnishes following established recipes and production sheets Complete daily mise en place including chopping, portioning, trimming, marinating, and ingredient preparation Assist with large batch preparation for banquets, buffets, plated events, and special culinary programs Support finishing and plating during banquet service when needed Ensure all prepared ingredients meet the Club’s standards for quality, freshness, and presentation Station Organization and Kitchen Workflow Set up and maintain prep stations to ensure efficient production Monitor ingredient levels and communicate needs to the Banquet Chef or Executive Chef Work collaboratively with hot line, garde manger, pastry, and banquet production teams Assist across kitchen stations when event volume requires additional support Sanitation, Safety, and Food Handling Maintain a clean and organized workstation throughout the shift Follow all food safety and sanitation standards including proper labeling, storage, and rotation Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any maintenance issues promptly Complete opening and closing duties including cleaning assignments and kitchen checklists Event Production Support Review event orders and banquet menus to understand production needs and timing Attend pre-service meetings to confirm assignments and event details Assist with preparation and breakdown of banquet service when required Adapt quickly to menu adjustments or last-minute event changes Ideal Background Strong candidates often come from environments such as: Private clubs, golf clubs, or hospitality venues with event programming Catering kitchens or banquet production teams Hotel banquet kitchens High-volume restaurants or seasonal resort operations Culinary school or professional culinary training programs This role is an excellent opportunity for cooks early in their careers to gain experience working with large-scale event production, banquet execution, and private club culinary standards. Qualifications Qualifications Culinary school diploma or certificate preferred, or equivalent professional kitchen experience Minimum two years of kitchen experience in food preparation, banquet production, or catering Solid understanding of knife skills, basic butchery, cooking techniques, and kitchen organization Ability to follow standardized recipes and production plans with accuracy Strong teamwork, communication, and time management skills ServSafe or food safety certification required Physical Requirements and Work Environment Ability to stand for extended periods during production and service Frequent walking, bending, lifting, and reaching Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds Comfortable working in a busy kitchen environment with heat, humidity, and high activity Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules Why Join the Culinary Team at Larchmont Yacht Club Working at Larchmont Yacht Club offers the opportunity to develop strong production and banquet experience within a respected private club environment.
