Full-time Description Mental Health Association of Nassau County
(MHANC) is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to
improving mental health in our community through advocacy,
education, program development, and the delivery of direct
services. Our organization is looking for a motivated individual
with a calling to help adults with mental illness by becoming a
Residential Counselor 1 & Intake Coordinator. The primary
responsibility of the Residential Counselor I/Intake Coordinator is
to assist the Program Manager with the day-to-day activities of the
Independent Apartment Program (IAP’s) & A Home At Last (AHAL II)
housing programs and manage all the intakes for the Community
Living Program (CLP). The program functions must be in accordance
with current governmental regulations or may be required by the
Program Manager to ensure quality of care. Essential Duties &
Responsibilities Oversee residential staff, including but not
limited to counselors, relief staff, volunteers and Interns Support
the Program Manager with the supervision and evaluation of staff
Assist in hiring and training new staff Attend & facilitate team
meetings Provide supportive services and Resident Tenancy Services
(RTS) which include, but are not limited to, case management,
teaching daily living skills, assessment for and linkage to other
community services as well as development of skills on how to be
appropriate tenants in a residential setting. Provide crisis
management services. Support residents in the development of
realistic and measurable personal recovery goals that are
culturally sensitive to their beliefs and background. Function as
liaison between individuals, landlords and various treatment team
members. Participate in all fire safety disaster preparedness
drills in a safe and professional manner. Serve as a back-up to
Residential Counselors to provide supportive services. Will serve
as the after-hours contact point person in the absence of the
Program Manager. Accepts and follows through on other duties as
assigned. Provide leadership and support to staff to ensure program
is conducted in accordance with the philosophies, objectives,
policies, and procedures of the programs. Review RTS billing for
accuracy. Assist in creating and modifying staff schedules. Approve
staff timesheets as needed. Assist in the design of required forms
and ensure that all required documentation is completed in the
required manner. Meet regularly with Program Manager for one-on-one
meetings. Attend meetings/seminars/in-services as required.
Participate in the implementation of the agency’s Quality
Improvement Program. Learn and adhere to all agency policies and
procedures applicable to this program. Develop and maintain a good
working rapport with all staff to ensure services and activities
are adequately maintained to meet the needs of the members.
Identify and assist in correcting areas to improve the programs.
Assist with all renewals and grants for the funding of programs.
Conduct intakes and completes all intake procedures including
entitlement & benefit eligibility for all Community Living Program
applicants. Attend the Single Point of Access (SPA) meetings to
collaborate with referrals/admissions for the IAP programs.
Maintain the SPA portal. Attend the Coalition of Care (CoC)
meetings, to collaborate on referrals/admissions for the AHAL II
program. Maintaining referral records and adhering to the
Coordinated Entry System (CES) procedures. Requirements Education &
Experience Required – bachelor’s degree in the Human Service
fields. Minimum of 2 years collaborating with individuals who have
a mental health diagnosis. Demonstrates leadership skills.
Knowledge of federal, state entitlements & benefits (within Nassau
County preferred). Other Qualifications Requires travel to various
locations in Nassau County. Must have valid NYS Driver’s License
and their own means of transportation. Must have working knowledge
of MS Word, Basic Internet. Must be a Qualified Mental Health
Service provider. Must possess the ability to make independent
decisions, as necessary. Must possess the ability to collaborate
with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government
agencies/personnel, and the public. Must be knowledgeable of
practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and
guidelines that pertain to residential programs. Must possess the
ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the
program’s goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc. Must
have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as
well as the willingness to collaborate with challenging residents.
Must have good written and oral communication skills, Supervisory
