The Leonardo DRS Naval Power Systems business is a trusted provider
of innovative naval gas and hybrid power systems, control
technology and support solutions for the U.S. Navy and navies
around the world.
Job Summary
The individual in this position is responsible for leading
engineering team efforts on technically complex projects, the
project is on time, on budget and in compliance with all project
requirements. The candidate hired for this position will have a
track record of technical leadership built on engineering
experience in designing and implementing systems utilizing
Microprocessors, DSPs, and Microcontrollers; and different software
applications such as video processing, instrumentation and control,
power conversion and high-speed serial and Ethernet communications.
Experience leading hardware/software integration and working with
new technologies is required. Candidate must be an energetic,
highly motivated individual with the ability to work off shift and
weekend hours if needed.
This individual will also provide direct supervision to a team of
5-10 personnel.Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for managing/supervising a team of engineers on an
activity for one or more moderately large/complex projects
- Ability to supervise a technical group independently and report
to management
- Preparation of performance appraisals for direct reports
- Responsible for scheduling and assessing staffing needs
- Recommend strategies and develops plans that satisfy customer
needs and employer's business values and strategies.
- Identify opportunities to work smarter, faster or provide the
customer value.
- Become the engineering point of contact with customers on
assigned programs
- Establishing, maintaining and following a detailed project
schedule for technical task execution
- Driving execution of program technical elements within the
allocated program cost and schedule constraintsJob Responsibilities

- Review customer specifications and requirements, and develop
designs to best support them, including cost as a key design
variable
- Ensuring that the product meets all required customer and any
internal derived requirements (such as design to cost and design
for manufacturability requirements/targets)
- Identifying, tracking, and mitigating project technical
risks
- Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of
products, systems or subsystems
- Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and
services
- Ensuring that projects follow the approved processes
- Generating estimates to complete the technical work when
required by the business
- Communicate with manufacturing, supply chain, program
management, and other internal customers as required
- Assist in the preparation of proposals by providing a Basis of
Estimate and Work Breakdown structure as needed
- Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission and
values of the organization
- Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business
meetings
- Participate in peer review of engineering documents
- Conduct periodic team meetings
- Develop and report on key metrics to assess the performance of
the team
- Familiarity with military specifications and military design
experience is desired
- Familiarity with Nuclear Quality Assurance requirements,
Specifically NQA-1 and 10CFR50 Appendix B, is a plus
- Familiarity with both waterfall and agile development
environments is desiredQualifications
- A typical candidate applying for the position should hold a
Bachelor's or more advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or
related technical field with:
- At least 5 years of experience as an engineer
- Some supervisory experience
- Demonstrable working knowledge of engineering disciplines in
multiple, relevant areas
- Strong written and verbal communications are needed skills for
the position
- Proficiency with scheduling tools such as Microsoft -
Project
- Proficiency with Microsoft - Office tools including Word,
Excel, Visio and PowerPoint
- Ability and willingness for domestic travel up to 10%,
including air travel, as required
- This position requires U.S. Citizenship and the ability to
obtain and retain a security clearance within a time period to be
established by the Company
- Ability to lead people in cross-functional design teams,
resolve conflicts, provide feedback
- Strong inter-personal and communication skills to aid
communications within the engineering community
- Technical, self-motivated leader who is action-oriented, with
the ability to apply problem solving skills and sound judgment to
complex issues
- Data driven but willing to make decisions when needed with less
