Job Description:

*POSITION SUMMARY*

The Assistant Director - Athletics and Recreation is directly responsible for all athletic and recreation programming for the Culinary Institute of America's (CIA) Hyde Park campus. This position has direct supervision of all part-time athletic coaches, fitness instructors, student programming assistants and lifeguards.

*ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES*

* Responsible for athletic and recreation programming at The Culinary Institute of America.
* Provides direct leadership in the development of coordinated, diverse, and high-quality athletic and recreation programs. Cultivates an inclusive, safe, and diverse environment for students, as well as student staff.
* Responsible for creating, forecasting, monitoring, and allocating the various budgets associated with the position including athletic teams, club sports, recreation, and intramurals.
* Assists in the development of the Campus Life programming calendar.
* Serves as the liaison between the Culinary Institute of America and the HVIAC (Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).
* Responsible for direct oversight and upkeep of the gym and pool including the purchasing of equipment and supplies.
* In collaboration with the Associate Dean - Campus Life & Student Development develops and implements departmental and divisional goals.
* Reviews and revises the policies and procedures associated with the athletics and recreation program.
* Manages the intercollegiate athletic program including, but not limited to game scheduling, home and away contest management, uniform and equipment ordering and inventory.
* Responsible for the management and oversight of STING, the campus mascot, including recruitment and training of students who serve in the role of STING and the management of event assignments, etc.
* Responsible for the recruitment, selection, supervision and evaluation of lifeguards and student athletic and student intramural programming assistants.
* Manages, plans, and organizes all outdoor recreation programs. Supervises and chaperones outdoor recreation trips as needed.
* Represents the department at various college-wide meetings and functions.
* Coordinates with Restaurant Associates in the planning and implementation of end of the season athletic banquets.
* Attends professional development opportunities such as conferences and educational seminars at the request of department leadership.
* Serves as one of the staff members covering weekend activities on a rotating basis with other members of the department.
* Assists with Division wide activities such as new student move-in, orientation and graduation as needed.
* Any and all other duties as assigned.

*REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

Education:

* Master's Degree in Physical Education/Recreation Management/Sports Administration or closely related field or a Bachelors Degree with four (4) years of relevant experience.

Experience:

* Minimum of two (2) years of related work experience either as a full-time professional or graduate student within the field of athletics, campus recreation, or fitness.

Licenses / Certifications:

* Have or able to quickly obtain a NY state driver's license and ability and ability to drive a 14-passenger van.
* Current CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain certification.
* Certified Pool Operator certification or ability to obtain certification.

*PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*

* Para-professional or Graduate Assistant experience in the field within a higher education setting.
* Previous coaching experience.
* Previous experience working in a collegiate athletic program.
* Strong social media knowledge and experience.

*REQUIRED SKILLS*

* Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills required. Must have demonstrated ability in organizational, time management, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
* Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
* Strong customer service skills.
* Strong computer experience, which must include the ability to work effectively with MS Office Suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
* Must display a high level of energy and self-motivation.
* Ability to work independently or in a team environment and maintain collaborative relationships.

*WORKING CONDITIONS*

* Ability to work a flexible schedule, regularly including nights and weekends, as required due to business needs.
* Able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds as needed.
* Able to bend, stoop or reach as needed.
* Regular work requires a great deal of sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
