Job DescriptionOverview Opened in 1973, ArchCare at Ferncliff Nursing Home is located on 36 beautiful acres of the former Astor family estate just outside the historic village of Rhinebeck. Our goal is to provide the best possible experience through holistic care that addresses not only the residents' physical needs, but their social, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs as well. As part of the management team, the Director of Staff Development will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, teaching and evaluating orientation, training and education program for all staff necessary for the delivery of services and resident care at Ferncliff Nursing Home. This position will work in cooperativeand collaborative relationship with all Department Heads in regard to Staff Development programs Responsibilities Essential Functions Promote the mission and philosophy of Ferncliff Nursing Home in all the educational programs offered. Assess the educational needs of the staff through the review of professional standards, analysis of current trends in geriatric care, regulatory requirements (both Federal and State), evaluation of staff expressed needs and issues raised through performance improvement activity. Provide initial orientation to Ferncliff Nursing Home for all new employees, agency personnel and students. Provide annual review of all mandatory educational topics for all employees, agency personnel and students. As new equipment is introduced to Ferncliff Nursing Home, assure that all staff who utilize the equipment are educated in its use as deemed necessary by that Departments Director. In response to the assessed educational needs, offer continuing educational programs for all staff throughout the year. Offer continuing education classes each month for the Certified Nurse Assistants per NYSDOH requirement. Interview potential employees for the New York Nurse Aid Training Program at Ferncliff Nursing Home. Provide CPR training to Nurses in the facility and maintain the records. Update the database two times a year. Provide interviewing, assessment and training of Return to Practice CNAs for retesting and hire. Assume responsibility for the New York Certified Nurse Aid Training Program at Ferncliff Nursing Home in accordance with NYS DOH regulations as Primary Coordinator and Primary Instructor of the program (see addendums to job description for specific duties of these functions). Assume responsibility for the New York State Paid Feeding Assistant Training Program at Ferncliff Nursing Home in accordance with Federal and NYS DOH regulations as Primary Coordinator and Primary Instructor. (See addendums to job description for specific duties of these functions). Help coordinate and facilitate the successful relationship with Ulster County BOCES training our employees as students as a supplement to our in house training classes at Ferncliff Nursing Home. Help coordinate the Peer Mentoring of new Paid Feeding Assistants, and students graduating from the in-house Certification of Nursing Assistants classes, including daily follow up with mentors and new employees. Maintain educational records for all OSHA and NYSDOH required programs and Nurse Assistant continuing education hours for a period of three years, and maintain the record of attendance at the HIPPA training program for a period of six years. Assume the responsibility as role model of professional behavior for staff. Ensure open lines of communication between staff, management, and Staff Development Department so to better meet educational needs. Prepare reports for the Assistant Administrator on all activities and accomplishments of the Department. Perform New Employee, Yearly Employee and Volunteer Mantoux tests and evaluation of yearly physical exams. Ensure every New Employee immunization status prior to General Orientation meets NYS DOH requirements. Chair the Ergonomic Subcommittee for Safety Committee Co-chair the Nursing Recruitment and Retention Committee. Participate on the Safety and Ethics Committees. Prepare and operate within an annual budget for the Department. Submit requests for capital expenditures as appropriate. Participate in performance improvement activities: a. Identify performance improvement opportunities for the Staff Development Department. b. Promote interdisciplinary cooperation in carrying out the performance improvement process. c. Attend the monthly QA meetings. Maintain confidentiality of all information regarding both residents and staff assure the protection of resident rights. Assume responsibility for own professional growth by seeking learning opportunities to improve professionally. Manage the part-time Staff Development LPN In the spirit of cooperation and in response to resident needs, it may be necessary to perform other related duties as requested and unrelated duties in case of emergency.
