We are searching for a highly motivated, innovative engineer to
fill in a dynamic and technically challenging role in our
Technology group.
Responsibilities:
The Engineer in Catalysis, Fuel Processing is primarily responsible
for synthesis and evaluation various catalysts to identify key
properties and characteristics needed for the development or
improvement of our molten carbonate fuel cells and meet the unique
requirements of our global customers. The essential functions of
this position include:
- Synthesizing catalysts under the supervision of the lab
manager,
- Conducting laboratory evaluations and characterization of
catalytic materials,
- Synthesis of other materials needed for catalyst testing,
- Materials handling and powder processing,
- Assisting with lab and instrument maintenance,
- Data analysis via data collection, data entry, and graphical
representation,
- Organization of data (electronic and physical) and hundreds of
physical samples,
- Creating presentations for informal and formal presentation of
test data results,
- Part/equipment ordering and organization,
- Procedure writing and project documentation.
Qualifications:
Education: BS in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Material
Sciences.
Experience: A minimum of 1 year of academic or industrial lab
experience is required.
Special Skills:
- Expertise with spreadsheets is required. Familiarity with SQL is
preferred.
- Knowledge of chemistry and materials for catalysts preferred.
- Experience with synthetic procedures and techniques of inorganic
materials preferred.
- Understanding of reaction kinetics and thermodynamic principles
preferred.
- Knowledge of high temperature equipment preferred.
- Experience using laboratory instruments for solid and gas
analysis preferred.
- Electrical experience will be highly considered.
- Mechanical experience will be highly considered.
- Knowledge of Six Sigma and/or standard laboratory practices
preferred.
- Demonstrated fastidious organizational skills required.
- A demonstrated team player who takes initiative, is enthusiastic
and is quality oriented is required.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Requires the ability to be present in a laboratory environment
and work standing at a work station using laboratory equipment.
- Must be able to move from area to area or room to room during
testing.
- Be able to run experiments on laboratory equipment described in
the job scope, including but not limited to working around
laboratory equipment and chemicals, working with both hands
simultaneously, use a high level of visual acuity to run tests and
read test results.
- Able to wear required personal protective equipment in laboratory
areas as required, such as safety glasses, safety shoes, clothing
or gloves that provide appropriate protection.
- Sedentary work includes working at a computer, utilizing a
keyboard and mouse.
