Position Overview:

You will have the overall responsibility for the planning, scheduling, budgeting, and technical excellence of program or project tasks. The Project Engineer (PE) will lead Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) comprised of multi-discipline engineering staff through the entire project life cycle. The PE shall serve as the primary interface between the technical IPT and the program office of the assigned project.

The Project Engineer ensures that informal and formal reviews occur throughout the project lifecycle, are properly structured, include internal non-advocates, and that all identified action items are closed in a timely manner at the conclusion of each of review phase. The Project Engineer oversees the execution of trade studies defined by the IPT and verifies that a complete flow down of the requirements and analysis of design performance is performed at the various stages of development.

A Project Engineer with a background in a specific engineering discipline may take on design development responsibilities aligned with that discipline.

Responsibilities:

In this position, you will be responsible for:

  • Creating and maintaining the organizational tools that define the technical plan and ensure its execution to an estimated schedule and budget.
  • Working with the Chief Engineer, Systems Engineering, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Program Management to receive inputs from the disciplines required to execute the effort and generates a plan of execution based upon their inputs.
  • Being the CCB chairperson for the project, and in that role will make certain that all appropriate board members perform sufficiently thorough reviews of the artifacts presented to the board for configuration control and release.
  • Collecting inputs from the Chief Engineer and IPT to establish a technical plan for each phase of a project, including requirements analysis, design development, design refinement, qualification planning, manufacturing, AI&T activities and qualification and acceptance testing, and related data analysis.
  • Identifying, based on inputs from the IPT, changes to the technical plan including both new and obsolete tasks, rescheduling risks and opportunities, and assignment of additional or replacement resources.
  • Verifying that a proper analysis is performed of the requirements and statement of work governing the project activity by the relevant engineering disciplines.
  • Verifying that proper analyses are completed, and that all results of the trade study are fully documented to detail the reasoning for the proposed solution as identified by the Chief or Lead Systems Engineer.
  • Working with the Chief and/or Lead Systems Engineer, the Project Engineer identifies, organizes, and chairs non-advocate reviews of major or high-risk subsystems within the designed solution.
  • Working with the Chief and/or Lead Systems Engineer, the Project Engineer organizes formal reviews SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, MRR contractually required or internally specified, providing templates for presentation packages.
  • Organizing and maintaining the risk register, soliciting the IPT for risk identification. Education Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (Electrical/Electronics, Mechanical, Optical, Systems or related field preferred). Preferred additional degree/certificate in Project Management, Engineering Management, MBA Experience Required:
      • Minimum of 10 years of engineering design experience for a given discipline
      • Minimup of 5 years of experience working within and leading engineering project IPTs
      • Experience in project estimation, resource planning, and scheduling
      • Experience leading and/or contributing on program proposal activities
      • Effective communication skills - able to communicate across all engineering disciplines, management chains, and external customers
      • Self-disciplined - able to make appropriate decisions that influence a successful product execution while maintaining compliance with business practices and policies
      • Self-directed - can work with minimal guidance or supervision
      • Effective time management skills - able to meet project deadlines/milestones under dynamic circumstances EHS/Environmental Requirements:
        • Able to lift/move computer and printer equipment
