Seeking a highly motived individual with a strong technical background and experience developing fuel cell products, or other high temperature process equipment. This position reports to the director of mechanical engineering for new product development and is responsible for leading a team of engineers and designers in the development of a new molten carbonate fuel cell module for carbon capture applications. This person is ideally someone who has managerial experience developing new products from conceptual design through testing and validation. The team reporting to this individual is responsible for coming up with new design concepts, analyzing parts using a combination of hand calculations, FEA, and CFD, as well as working with suppliers to develop first article parts.

- Leadership: Overall accountability of project objectives and management of the team. Supervise and provide technical support in the development of first article components. Perform reviews with employees and provide feedback on performance and ensure they are satisfied in their role. Ensure that work is being documented and reviewed properly through a design review process.
- Communication: Discuss roles and responsibilities with each member of the team to ensure they know what is expected in their position. Communicate with peers and assist in design reviews for other product development efforts. Communicate project deadlines to suppliers so they know the lead times that are expected. Prepares technical reports and presentations to communicate designs/results to internal and external stakeholders.
- Productivity: Ensure the team is meeting project milestones, and work with the project engineering team to update schedules and track progress. Develop schedules for sub-tasks and individual component tests and make sure they align with the overall project schedule. Keep track of suppliers and provide timely feedback to ensure they are meeting delivery dates.
- Innovation: Act as the technical lead in the new product development and balance project decisions based on technical feasibility, schedule, and cost. Review computational analysis with team members and lead the conceptual design process when changes are required. Use reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches to the problem.
- Safety: Ensures that systems are developed in accordance with best safety practices. This includes participating in Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP) reviews.

Education: B.S. Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
Experience: Requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.

Required Experience and Characteristics:
- Strong understanding in the fundamentals of mechanical design stress allowances, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
- Team player who works willingly with others and keeps a positive, goal-focused outlook when tackling challenging, time-sensitive engineering problems.
- Flexible and adaptable to rapidly shift gears into multi-disciplinary roles based on current project requirements.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and take initiative on projects.
- Highly knowledgeable of equipment fabrication processes - especially brazing, welding, and sheet forming.
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills to work effectively with others in sharing ideas and scientific findings.
- Knowledgeable of major industry codes and standards is a plus (especially ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel, NFPA 70 area classifications).

Working Environment/Working Conditions:
- Desk work using a computer, at home and office as needed.
- Meetings occurring on-site and via virtual means (Teams, Zoom, etc.)
- This position is located indoors and requires the ability to move between separated rooms within the same building. While working at FCE's facilities, covid-19 safe practices in place, which include social distancing, face mask wearing, and other protocols.
- Occasional travel via car and/or commercial airlines, both domestic and international.
- Occasional work outdoors in a power plant environment during commissioning activities. Performs occasional field or in-house test facilities work.
- Be able and willing to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, respirator, and other PPE as required.
- Travels (10%) domestically and/or internationally. Travel via car and/or commercial airlines
