Job Description:
The University at Albany is seeking to hire an Academic Success Coach to support the university's mission to improve student retention and persistence. This initiative is aligned with the University at Albany's commitment to deliver impactful educational support services that contribute to the achievement and persistence of all students. An Academic Success Coach must have a passion for helping students and will provide mentoring and supportive services designed to promote academic success. The incumbent will work closely with faculty, advisors, and the campus community to promote academic planning that leads to degree completion. The Academic Success Coach will also work closely with the Office of Undergraduate Education team to support enrollment and retention by delivering quality and holistic academic support services.

This position requires the ability to work weekends and off hours when necessary.

Primary Responsibilities:

Academic Coaching
Assist schools and colleges in designing and implementing program specific completion strategies. This includes collaborating with schools and colleges to develop degree completion pathways and assessments for all students.
Partner with the Academic Recovery Program to provide targeted academic coaching to ARP students to help establish expectations and goals, and to identify obstacles to develop a plan for success.
In coordination with academic advisors, provide individualized support to students through the implementation of personalized interventions and coaching services. This includes working with students to develop individual completion plans and referring to other campus resources when necessary.
Manage an Academic Coaching and Academic Recovery Program student caseload to provide guidance and support about course planning, educational and career goals.

Program Administration
Teach academic skill-based courses and facilitate workshops. Develop and conduct workshops, classroom presentations and coordinate events to support student academic and personal success. Integrate academic success best practices and effective coaching techniques for completing course work, test preparation, and studying strategies.
Oversee the Peer-Assisted Student Success (PASS) Mentoring Program. This program is designed to pair new incoming students with junior or senior mentors.
Collaborate closely with the Committee on Academic Standing to review exceptions to academic policies.
Work closely with the Office of Disability Access and Inclusion Student Services (DAISS) to address and meet learning needs of students.

Outreach to students who have withdrawn from the university within the last two years to design pathways for return and degree completion and engage with students who have initiated a withdrawal to evaluate academic pathways and degree completion options.
Other reasonable duties as assigned.

May supervise employees as assigned (if no direct reports at time of filling position)

Job Requirements:

Knowledge of coaching, instructional and mentoring techniques
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A clear understanding of the variety of challenges facing college students today
Evidence of ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
Knowledge of high impact strategies that promote persistence and degree completion
Highly organized and able to prioritize in a fast-paced, team- oriented environment
Committed to building student retention programs that support equity, inclusion, and diversity
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with diverse stakeholders
Ability to interact effectively and work collaboratively with students, families, and other University constituents
Strong leadership skills and communication skills
Knowledge of current trends in student retention and student development theory, preferred

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in higher education or a relevant field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
Minimum of three years professional experience in one (or more) of the following areas: Academic Advising, Career Services, Admissions & Records, TRIO/EOP programs, Retention Programs, Student Life/Activities, Accessibility Services, or related Student Affairs areas
Experience presenting in a classroom or in front of large groups
Experience using systems such as Peoplesoft, EAB and/or degree audit software
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, such as Outlook, SharePoint, Word, and Excel
Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community
Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in higher education or a relevant field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
Experience working with students and/or individuals from diverse social, economic, ethnic, academic, and cultural backgrounds

Additional Information:
Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Senior Staff Assistant, SL-3, $58,000-$60,000
